In 2014, 1.23 billion registered monthly active users were on Facebook. Still, Facebook anticipates that by the end of 2016 the number to grow to 1 billion active users, who also possess a camera phone.

With this new feature, Facebook manages to improve user generated content through offering their audience an opportunity to create their own virtual reality.

  1. Find a viewpoint worthy of a panoramic photo and place yourself right in the middle of it all. Take a 360 photo using your smartphone
  2. Upload the photo through the Facebook app and it will automatically recognize that it is a 360 photo, and they can be distinguished by a compass icon
  3. Check out other inspiring 360 photos on others’ timelines through the interactive viewer, and experience the virtual reality by rotating or moving your phone around
