The Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and auditors from leading firms across the country today unleashed a social media blitz to highlight the benefits of a career in auditing and the important role auditors play in our capital markets.
The employment outlook for accounting students couldn’t be brighter. The Bureau of Labor Statistics 2014-2015 Occupational Outlook handbook found that employment of accountants and auditors is expected to grow 13 percent from 2012 to 2022, representing an additional 166,700 jobs. Moreover, after hiring a record number of accounting graduates last year, 91 percent of accounting firms reported that they expect to hire at the same or increased level the following years.1
“I am #AuditorProud,” said Deloitte CEO and CAQ Governing Board Chairman Cathy Engelbert. “And I am excited about how the audit profession has embraced innovation – the use of data analytics, artificial intelligence and automation – and transformed the audit into a powerful lens that makes visible the inner workings of a business. By sharing our stories on social media today, we will inform students and others about what it truly means to be an auditor and the many exciting and unique opportunities a career in the accounting and auditing profession holds.”
Using the hashtag #AuditorProud, auditors will tap social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to share personal stories of why they chose a career in auditing, what they love about the profession, and what makes them proud to be an auditor. College graduates entering the workforce now and over the next decade tend to have goals and inherent strengths that align well with these new skillsets – including a more advanced knowledge of digital information – new auditors will need to succeed.
“Auditors play an indispensable role in our capital markets system,” said CAQ Executive Director Cindy Fornelli. “By providing assurance on important financial information, auditors instill trust and confidence that inform investors’ decisions. Attracting the best and brightest to the auditing profession benefits all with an interest in audit quality and high-functioning capital markets.”
Note: The social media blitz will run from 7:00 a.m. ET to 7:00 p.m. ET. Led by the CAQ, the efforts also include the AICPA, university groups, and high school organizations.
