Still Undecided: eBook, iPad or Tablet
2011 will be a big year for digital publishing. The whopping convergence of devices and technologies has everyone clamoring. Even I am considering joining the bandwagon.
Amazon’s Kindle ebook has been around for a few years now and has become Amazon’s most popular selling item in company history so that’s the tried and true. I’m still iPad-less, because I’m waiting for Android tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab to give me more than I need, as well as serve as my digital reading device. What to do?
Perhaps it comes down to apps and content. Google recently launched their own ebook store and iPad apps like Flipboard & Pulse turn your blog feeds and social content into your own personal interactive publication. There is even a WordPress plugin to make your blog behave like a native iPad app.
So many choices. What does this all mean? Well the more devices that suport these kinds of digital publications the more likely folks will use them to consume media such as ebooks. Both the Kindle and the iPad proved that. More tablet like devices are coming and I don’t like being the early adopter, only to be left with an antiquated gadget a few months later.
So I will sit back, observe, and wait.
